LB Broth Pouch, Luria – Nutrient-Rich Media for Bacterial Cultivation

LB broth is a nutrient-rich medium that provides the essential components required for bacterial growth, making it especially suitable for the cultivation of E. coli and other gram-negative bacteria. It is widely used in laboratory research and biopharmaceutical applications for various purposes, including protein expression, gene manipulation, bacterial stock preparation, and antibiotic resistance studies.

The LB broth formulation contains three primary ingredients: tryptone, yeast extract, and sodium chloride. These components supply a rich mix of amino acids, peptides, vitamins, and minerals necessary for bacterial growth. There are three common LB formulations based on the sodium chloride quantity—Miller, Lennox, and Luria—each catering to your different needs.

Choose from sterilized LB broth, Luria (500 mL or 1000 mL) for immediate use, or pre-measured powder pouches for 1 liter of broth—each providing consistent results for your bacterial cultures.

LB Broth, Luria – 1 Liter Recipe:

  • Tryptone: 10 g
  • Yeast Extract: 5 g
  • Sodium Chloride: 0.5 g

Preparing LB Luria Broth:

  1. Add one bag of LB Miller powder to 900 ml of deionized water.
  2. Mix well using a magnetic stirrer until the powder is completely dissolved.
  3. Adjust the pH to 7.4 if necessary.
  4. Add deionized water to bring the volume to 1 liter.
  5. Sterilize the solution by autoclaving at 121°C for 20 minutes, or by filtration if preferred.

This ready-to-use formulation ensures consistent results, providing the optimal environment for
your bacterial cultures.
