Researchers have developed a comprehensive catalog of 239 RNA viruses known to infect human cells, providing an integrated resource for understanding viral diversity, evolution, and epidemiology. The dataset includes key information such as virus discovery dates, geographic origins, links to the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) database, and scientific references covering virus discovery, transmission routes, infection mechanisms, host range, and known vectors. By organizing extensive virological knowledge into a unified framework, this resource offers valuable insights into emerging infectious threats, virus–host interactions, and the factors shaping the evolution and spread of human-infecting RNA viruses.
The dataset was published on February 19, 2026, by Feifei Zhang, Lu Lu, Liam Brierley, Helmi Hietanen, and Mark E. J. Woolhouse.
